“In
normal teaching as an occupation, one draws salary
at the end of the month. And that’s practically
the end. But at Thawsi School teaching is a profession
where a teacher keeps training and developing himself,
seeking Dhamma as refuge and filled with loving
kindness, constantly perfecting the art of teaching,
while upholding the virtuous qualities expected
of a teacher.” |

Watana Onkham, teacher of 14 years)

“How
do I feel to be a teacher at Thawsi School? Well,
I think I have made the right decision to be a
teacher here because being a member of the school
means an opportunity for training in self-development
and to understand about the genuine and sacred
commitment of being a teacher. Thawsi
teachers have regular opportunities to learn from
the examples of our foremost and ultimate Teacher,
the Buddha, and numerous teachers whom we have
the privilege to meet and to learn from.
We realize that education for
the large majority is an unending process. Education
is a learning process through real practice.

When we are face to face with a crisis,
it is a good moment to understand oneself. This was
the case when I had to undergo an operation. I asked
myself if I was afraid to die. The answer was no. But
I still felt that I had not made sufficient contributions
to society and had not adequately performed my duties
as a teacher. This encouraged me to want to learn more
about life and learn about how to be a good teacher.
| I have set my own goal
in the remaining part of my life that I want to
try to be a good teacher. I will resolutely perform
meritorious deeds as best I can to deserve this
life time as a human being. |
