Changes that
have taken place
“Through regular training, and practice
and concerted effort, our teachers are beginning to
see the real value of their work. In the past most of
them worked in order to make a living. There was little
sense of purpose. But after the teachers began to understand
that Buddhist education concerns the integrated development
of everybody, including the teachers themselves, most
of them began to teach with a strong sense of commitment
and devotion.
Although we still have occasional problems
as a community, and the extent to which Buddhist training
is adopted by individual teachers varies, I have noticed
many positive changes:

-Spiritually,
they are more mindful and calm.
-They are nurturing the desirable qualities of patient
endurance, perseverance, accountability, courage
and confidence to tackle problems by themselves.
Quite importantly, the teachers are now more confident
and at ease enough with the Buddhist teachings to
explain them to parents. They have formed quite
a good partnership in educating and looking after
the children.”
-The teachers are more united;
-They have more loving kindness and compassion;
-There is a greater sense of sympathy and understanding
for others, less jealousy and more forgiveness,
less of the fault-finding mind and more looking
at their own minds;
-Teachers are more open to critical comments and
more willing to learn new things. |
