First we will discuss the principles
of the preparation of the integrated unit entitled
(translated literally) “Picking flowers having impacts
on the stars”. It’s like picking flowers on this
earth and yet having effects on the stars such a
distance away. This is the title of the curriculum
for primary level 1- 6. |
Education management
of Thawsi school arises from the confidence and faith
of education in Buddhism which teaches human beings
to regard everything as related as integrated together
throughout the universe with no end. It does not look
at human beings as a separated entity, as a manager
of nature but it encourages perception of the whole
thing as an integrated unit.

Education from the past up to the present
time tends to emphasize the technical aspect as a starting
point and is not based on the lives of human beings
or the mind of people as a starting point, but emphasizes
the technical aspect or subject matter like how to make
a living. This type of education tends to focus on the
external aspects of human beings. It is a learning process
which is not integrated but a partitioned one, and it
is not intended for the learner to know and to develop
oneself.

That is why problems arise everywhere
in the world socially, economically, and environmentally.
These problems come back to haunt and have negative
impacts on everybody at the present time. So the
learning process in an integrated manner is an “answer”
and an important “principle” in educational management
of Thawsi School.
Students are required to try to see the relationship
and visualize the totality of the whole thing. |
Students are encouraged
to learn about the external things in such a way that
they can also learn about the relationships among various
things, can integrate them together to see the big picture.
Ultimately, they are also encouraged to relate back
to cultivate and develop their own mind. The principle
in designing the integrated unit at the primary level
involves the use of subject matters in various areas
from science, social science, religion, culture, occupation,
technological development and art based on the curriculum
as required by the Ministry of Education curriculum
of 2001.
